Damn, they removed the splash screen?

Nope. The splash screen is not displayed because some errors were occurred during boot. It is something normal for an unstable release.
In the stable version, the splash screen should be displayed like normal.

Ohh. I see. I heard it was gonna be a type of dynamic/animated splash screen that rivals the Windows 7 bootup animation?

They have really created a horrific background. It does not mix well with the brown icons. Why do they just not use one of the nice photo, like the once shipped with 9.10?

The new theme wants to make Ubuntu look more like Mac OS X, so that’s why they created that background. I found it only strange, but not necessarily horrific.

Yes, they’ve already created a dynamic/animated splash screen. Since I can’t post a link here, search in YouTube for “Ubuntu 10.04 Boot Splash [Plymouth] [WebUpd8]” to view it.

@kojsbarv It’s only alpha 3… Alpha 3 of Kubuntu for example doesn’t even have a background at the moment.

@Lazureus Fedora uses Plymouth and had a much nicer animated splash than Windows 7 around a year before Windows 7 final was released.

You should’ve enabled 3d acceleration to the Guest OS.

Yeah, they’re using Plymouth, which has the CAPABILITY to have full animation in different stages and blend very nicely, but it’s a very simple theme in Lucid so far. Either way, I’m glad KMS is now available for all chipsets.

3d acceleration has been enabled in the settings of VirtualBox for the guest OS, with the Guest Additions installed.
However, Ubuntu is not able at all to use the 3D acceleration, and I don’t know exactly why. And no desktop effect can be enabled, too.
That’s why you see that it moves pretty slow.
