Which laptop is good for Linux?
Hello everyone. I am buying a new laptop to replace my 5 year old Toshiba, and I have a few preliminary choices, but I do not know whether or not they work well with Linux. I am also open to new suggestions: the requirements are:
price under $1400 (USD)
full Linux compatibility. My favorite is Ubuntu, but Debian, Gentoo and Fedora are options. Windows is NOT an option
I am using this for light gaming, heavy 3D development and programming, so both a GeForce or ATI card, and a (preferably Desktop AMD) fast CPU is needed. I would also prefer a reputable dealer and manufacturer, Sony, MSI, Dell, Asus, Toshiba, Newegg for example
my current choices are:
MSI GX630-028US
MSI GX620-001US
Asus m50vm-b1 and b4 – these are a little expensive, but very fast
MSI gt735-024US – the ATI video card is suspicious, but I heard it works with linux
These are just my choices, there is no need to research them, but if you have had experience with one, please tell me, be it positive or negative. Other models are also appreciated, thanks in advance.

Application Crash on Vista Home Premium…?
I Have TOSHIBA A135 Laptop with Vista HP, XP SP2, And Linux Mandriva installed. my computer meets the specs required. I just install the Solaris. After installation was competed, I explore the desktop and all system in solaris. When I entering the HD partition setting, accidentally I press option which will format all of my partitions.(after that moment, my HDD is formated [My HD is empty]).
On Next day, I install Vista Home Premium that came with Recovery Disc. When installation was completed, I try to open software which can run without install first. But Windows can’t run that software.

I try to open other non installer software (software which can run without installation). but have same problems.
NOTE: before my hardisc formated and all of my data lost, I can run those software on my vista HP without error reporting. I have format my HD and reinstall that Vista many times, and i try to change the compatibitity mode in file properties, but nothing changed. I can run it in my friend’s TOSHIBA laptop with same OS. I sure that it is no virus, adware, spyware, or trojan.
in other hand, other of my friends has similar problem with me. so please help me… [or Maybe i must install something for free?] ![]()
I never update MS before, but i can run it before my HD formated because solaris.
some of my friends has same problem, with other software.
Fedora 10 (Cambridge) running on Toshiba NB100
This short movie presents Fedora 10 (Cambridge) with kernel 2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc.i686 installed on Toshiba NB100 netbook. The OS loads fine regardless the issues with AHCI during the boot process. See how it works and try it yourself. The way to put Fedora 10 on NB100 is not straight: first install Fedora 8 (Werewolf) from USB stick, then install Fedora 10 release rpms and upgrade the system with yum. Good Luck!
