Why won’t my desktop work in ?
I just started using Linux, specifically Ubuntu. I get the loading screen fine, and the text based beginning fine. However when it goes to the desktop it flips out on me and it seems like every line of my screen is shaking so the images are disassociating. And it’s not just Ubuntu. I’ve also tried Fedora and openSUSE. They all do the same thing. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

fedora xwindows GUI over ssh?
I just installed fedora core 5 and want to be able to remote administer with a xwindows environment on the same network with a windows xp machine, i have tried putty but cannot handle the text based environment. I love the gui from the fedora console, but this is a remote machine in the office and need to be able to log in remotely graphically.

How do I edit text files using the command line?
In Ubuntu Linux I was trying to install a graphics card driver, when I accidentally killed my GUI. Now I need to edit a text file using only the command line. I have no GUI, so text editors are out. How can I do this?

mandriva linux 2008 boot and live cd?
when i put the live cd on this pc when it loads it only shows white text with black back ground.
on another pc it does shows a facy graphic progress bar
how do i get it
