I have a Ubuntu Linux box setup as a file server in my home office. I use some of this space to store avi files which is shared using Samba. I can then access these files using my Windows Media Center in the den and through an XBox in the living room. I want to put another media player in the bedroom but I don’t want a clunky XBox or full PC hooked up to the bedroom TV. Plus, I don’t want to spend a fortune.

I’ve looked at the D-Link MediaLounge (DSM-520), but I don’t think this streams media from a Samba share, only from another Media PC. But, I like the look of this device. Can someone give me suggestions on similar products or a cheap way to build my own.
