how do I crash the hard drive and start anew? This time I would like to install Ubuntu Linux. But first I need to clean up the hard drive. It has nearly eight years of junk on it.

It runs fine under Windows and Linux, but Linux seems to remove the NTFS formatting from it. I reformat it under Windows, and Linux just removes it again. How do I fix this? I need it to be NTFS formatted ALL the time! Thanks!
If Linux reformats it, then the data would be gone. I don’t tell Linux to reformat it, so it shouldn’t be doing that, and like I said, it doesn’t delete any of the data. Linux is appearing to be the dumb one now, actually.

ok i used to ahve windows xp then i bought windows vista and installed it, soo now i wanna install, linux debian GNU, but i here u need to reformat a partition or something? can someone help me?

I installed Debian some months back on my lap top. I now want to get rid of it and install Ubuntu. I’m having problems partitioning my hard drive because i think there’s a problem with Debian.

How can i completely erase everything on the hardrive (thus getting rid of Debian) without having to go into the OS?

Tried it – and it gave me an error. Which is why i think it would be best without having to go into the OS.

My windows files are all corrupt. It is spyware infection. I don’t even have the CD to reformat it. I’m thinking of downloading linux. Can you tell me which is the best, user friendly linux version that i can download for free.

How about mandriva linux?

There are four options for mandriva like CD1, CD2, CD3, CD4 in the download website. What are they?
which one shall i download?
