I am setting up a new Fedora server based on an older RedHat server and I’m running into problems with DNS. I am authoritative for several domains but can’t get named to respond to anything but internal queries, which work just fine. External queries time out, and named in debug mode shows absolutely no activity in response to an external query. I think this is either a named.conf problem or an iptables issue.

I’m willing to pay for a sucessful resolution to this problem.

Is redhat linux 9 in use or not I mean is it the new version to use or to use another one.
and what is Fedora

Hello and thanks for answering. I am a Red Hat/Fedora guy (I have been since RedHat Linux 5.2). Anyhow, I’ve been hearing good things about OpenSuSE and thought I might like to give it a try. Fedora doesn’t include native MP3 or DVD support, but does OpenSuSE? I know how to go through the process in Fedora, but I was wondering if SuSE is any better at multimedia support.

I’m not interested in Ubuntu, but if you know about its multimedia capabilities, please answer that as well.

Here’s the scenario: I login or run a script on a Linux machine.
How do I/my script tell that I am on a Debian or Redhat machine? No, I don’t mean checking the existence of some programs specific to either distribution .. what I want is something along the lines of “cat”ting a file under /proc or /etc, or .. running a command such as “uname”.

I will shift from windows to linux,,, I will use windows till be good in linux,,,so I need to know is there in linux ADD/REMOVE program as in windows,,,and if yes,,, where can I reach it in linux,,,I know that there is different version as Fedora,, redhat,,suse and others,, but,,I suppose they will not be differet in add/remove program,, if it is there? Am I right?
