How do you get rid of Error 17 in Grub when starting up my computer? I can’t Boot!?
I installed Windows XP Home. Then I installed Ubuntu Linux,(on the same hard drive, different partitions.) I booted into Ubuntu, I thought it was useless. I wanted to erase Ubuntu and merge my partitions. So I rebooted into Windows, started Partition Magic and formatted the partition containing Ubuntu. After I did that, I rebooted my computer and here is what it says:

And it’s just stuck there!
Can someone please help me?
I appreciate any useful answers……….
Oh, keep in mind that I still haven’t gon into any operating system yet…
Linux partitioning?
I have a 300GB Hard disk. I already partitioned 200 GB for Windows (NTFS). What’s the best way to partition the remaining space for Linux (I’ll be installing Fedora Core 4)? Is Partition Magic the way to go? Do you know of any good websites that walk you through this stuff?
Also, I want to use 50 GB for the partition, and save 50 GB for another Linux version.
My power supply only allows for one Hard disk and one DVD_RW drive, so the extra hard disk thing would be a pain.
Cant see hard drive?
Hi today i was running Mandriva Linux from the CD and i think i accidentally formatted or installed it on my hard drive. Did it write over my data files? Can they be restored? Also i cant seem to see my hard drive in My Computer in Windows XP anymore and even in Mandriva. The only time i can see it is when i am looking on Partition Magic in Windows XP. The drive looks partitioned in 3 sections and it says linux in small letters. Any help on how to restore this would be great. THanks
How to set which partition to boot from? (accidently chose the wrong partition from Partition Magic)?
I installed Mandriva Linux on one partition, and then installed a Windows XP on another. Then I tinkered with Partition Magic, as I wanted to install Mac OS X86 on another partition. I accidently chose the Linux partition as the default boot partition (which apparently, the Master Boot Record is broken after I installed Windows).
So now, the Linux won’t boot, keep giving me error messege. And I don’t know how to boot to my Windows partition. Any help?
How to format…?
I had windows xp and linux(mandriva). But i got my primary partition formatted as it got badly affected by viruses, trojans, spams……. however i did not install windows immediately, i used linux for a few days and thereafter i could not install xp. Though the i can boot from the xp cd, the process stops at initial step itself. I thought at first that my hard disk might have got developed some bad sectors, but after i consulted the service provider i got to that it is a software problem arised as i formatted primary partition and left it so with linux on my hard disk. Now i wish to format the whole hard disk deleting all the partitions including the linux partition. I tried it with partition magic but i ended up with unformatted linux boot partition using my friends healthy hard disk which has only xp.
Now can anyone send a software/link/solution which can completely format deleting all the partitions of a harddisk without affecting the data in the second harddisk?
