Compiz Fusion on Your Desktop : Howto Ubuntu
Ever wondered how to make your Ubuntu desktop more spiffy? It’s easy when you enable the desktop effects through Compiz Fusion, and I made a quick tutorial will to show you how. If you don’t know, Compiz “aims to provide an easy and fun-to-use windowed environment, allowing use of the graphics hardware to render each individual window and the entire screen, to provide some impressive effects, speed and usefulness.” – Compiz Website Here’s how you get started: First we will enable Compiz by going to System—–Preferences——Appearance—-Visual Effects and choosing the “Extra” radio button. Then we will open a terminal and install ccsm.. twurl.nl for the rest of the text version of the video, including the commands. Thanks for all your input and support! Beryl merged with Compiz-Fusion, for those who have asked. EDIT: Known bug and FIX with Computer: Intel 2.5Ghz, nvidia geforce 8400 Ubuntu 9.04 x64 Compiz 0.8.2 For the cube, the settings sometimes are not changed in the compiz file and must be done manually: Run gconf-editor (alt+f2) Change: /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/hsize: 4 and /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/number_of_desktops: 1 Thanks a lot for the tip, blindguardian72! =D
