I have a 160Gb seagate STA hard disk.Ever since I tried to install opensolaris on it,a 40 Gb partition started having some problem.I formatted the whole HDD even then the problem continues.Sometimes it detects and sometimes not.The operating system (opensuse 11) also gives a kenel panic every time I Install it.How do I resovle it.

I wish to partition my 120GB HDD so that my current Win XP Home installation can stay, I can install Ubuntu and then on a third bit install Win XP Pro. I have no idea what to do and Google really doesn’t help.

Me bought a Dell Inspiron, the HDD was 320,

Me tried to install Slackware. Me first deleted every partition using GParted, created a Linux partition and then a swap partition, apparently there was nothing at all in the HDD, and then I installed Slackware 13.1 smoothly,

and next thing that happened was when I turned on my laptop on for the first time, it gave me a dual-boot. Windows or Linux? and when I logged onto the Windows, out of curiousity, it told me it does not have any file.

I deleted all the partitions again using GParted. and then I turned on. It still gave me the dual-boot screen.

It feels as though the MBR did not get deleted when I deleted all the partitions in the HDD.

What’s happening?

ok i installed xp on my laptop and i didnt want it so i put vista from a torrent on a 500GB external USB hdd,and i thought it wouldnt work good so i clicked cancel and hit the power button and now it wont boot windows! and i tried everything so i booted off of my cd mandriva linux cd in and im on it now typein this and i have no other pcs exept at my buisness and im not driving back untill tomorrow! what do i do?!?!?! on mandriva i cant acsess any of my HDD’s or my usb hdd! do i have to wait till tomorrow and burn a cd with power iso? and also tell me what will happen and what do i do if it wont start anymore? plz help!!!

What file system should I use for an external HDD used for both Linux and OS X?

I have a Mac (OS X 10.4.7) and an Ubuntu PC (6.06). What file system should I use for a shared 300GB ext hdd? I’ve read that OS X has no (first or third party) support for NTFS, and read only support for ext2 and no support for ext3. Meanwhile Ubuntu has no support for HFS+.
The disk I want to format is 300GB. Is that too big for FAT32? If so, how do I format it as such?
I’m open to any solutions, no matter how messy.
