Why the hell does my computer keep freezing?!!?
Ok so I got my brothers old gateway computer(from 2005 i think) and it had a fresh copy of xp on it. Well after a few months I noticed viagra advertisements popping up, it wont let me update my antivirus or windows, and so on. Then I think my registry somehow got screwed up??(i used Ccleaner and it jacked things up)
Anywayyys… Now to the problem. I wasn’t sure to wipe out my computer at this point until it started freezing randomly. It can freeze on the bootscreen, welcome screen, or just when I’m browsing the web. So since I dont have a xp disc, I installed Linux(Mandriva) onto my computer replacing xp. Everything seemed to be going ok, but NOW it freezes on Linux!! I dont know whats going on.. could it be hardware issues? Im pretty familiar with computers and I dont really understand how it can just freeze especialy since this is a NICE computer :/

Why is Linux freezing?
Am running Fedora Core 5 (I’ve tried both 32 and 64 bit versions) on the following hardware:
AMD Athlon +3200 64 2.0 Ghz
1 GB DDR RAM
Biostar GeForce 6100 M9 Motherboard
160 GB Maxtor SATA Hard drive
After between 5 and ten minutes of use, it freezes. Keyboard and mouse are unresponsive with my only option to do a hard boot. Any insight you could provide would be appreciated.
