I have Vista64 Ult and Ubuntu 64 8.10 dual-booted on my desktop... but I also have openSUSE 11.4 and PC-BSD and XP (which I use to run non-game 32bit programs that don't like Vista64) as guest OSes using Sun xVM Virtualbox (which is free) You can either dual-boot XP and some Linux Distro, or you can run XP as the underlying OS (so that graphics intensive games will play fast) and run one, two or five Linuces (plural of linux) using Sun xVM Virtuabox.

It's all a matter of preference really. I prefer using Beryl of KDE, but many of my friends prefer GNOME. "zeldaparty8" hit it on the head though. GNOME is less graphic-intensive.
