cant get online, wondering if Linux Fedora 7 is worth it and if I should go back to Microsoft.

Hi,
If this happened after a storm, chances are that this has got more to do with the Internet connection than with the operating system. Try a sequential power cycle, turn off the modem , router, computer etc for about 3 minutes, then turn on the modem first ( wait until you see all the lights ) then turn on the router (if you have one) and then turn on the computer.
The message you are getting shows that you don't have a connection from the computer to the modem (be sure to check the ethernet cable, try swapping the ends)
