Should I re-compile X on my main partition?

I really want to do some work with X11R7.5, but my distribution (openSUSE 11.2) only offers 6.5 right now.

I’m thinking about compiling X.org myself so that I can play around with the Git version, but I’m concerned that if something goes wrong I risk messing up my installation beyond simple repair.

Should I risk it, or should I set up a separate partition for testing X?

How can I remove my linux distribution and simply boot from windows?

I am running windows 7 and openSUSE 11.2 and I want to just run my openSUSE in a virtual box. The only problem I encounter is that when i delete my openSUSE partitions, I error 22 and can’t boot. I don’t want grub or openSUSE there anymore. What do?

Which Linux for me, Ubuntu vs OpenSUSE?

I’m a relatively new Linux user. I like both OpenSUSE and Ubuntu but haven’t used either for more than a week. I can do some decent stuff with bash. I need something to completely over rite Windows from my harddrive, and I don’t want anyting that runs IN Windows. I’m currently leaning towards Ubuntu because of its .deb files and extraordinary package management (ex. Synaptic)– I don’t really like YaST. Also, Ubuntu has a much larger community and following. However, SUSE is well-polished. My questions are the usual ones, and I’d like to hear info/input on everybody’s part. Also, does Ubuntu come default with the option of starting with GNOME or KDE and can Compiz work with both of these? How easy is the first installation? I’ve heard of a few bugs with Ubuntu, but I really think the package management (especially for me) is a leaning point towards Ubuntu. Thanks for the help.

Which of these is the best Linux Distro ever? Which one?
